2021 isn’t just City of Culture year:
it’s the Memorial Park’s 100th birthday
While Coventry gears up to be City of Culture in 2021, we, the Friends of the War Memorial Park are planning a year-long celebration of our own.
Because 2021 is also the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Memorial Park.
And we’d like to involve as many people as possible in celebrating this birthday, with a year-long programme of events, starting in summer 2021.
We’re launching our campaign officially on February 6th; but, as loyal supporters of the Park, we wanted to give you a bit of advance notice – and ask for your help.
We’re launching a big call for ideas.
How would you celebrate the Park’s 100th birthday? What would you like to see? And what will you do to make it a success?
We’re talking to Friends, clubs, groups, schools and local residents who use the Park regularly. We’re looking for stories, photographs, videos, memories of the Park and ways to showcase them. We’ve got the support of City of Culture Trust. And we’ve got some good ideas already.
But this should be your celebration too. So please: get involved; spread the word; share the idea; offer creative suggestions (large or small), and practical assistance in running them. And let’s give our Memorial Park a birthday year to remember.
How can you get involved?
There are lots of ways to contact us and see what’s happening (our ifrst newsletter is here).
